Small Teaching: Learning Through Practicing
Becoming an expert takes practice, and it also means responding to feedback. In this course, we look at how to take create moments for students to practice skills in ways that will benefit from your expert observations.
This course has been developed with Flower Darby from the Northern Arizona University, USA, and Professor James M. Lang, the author of Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning, speaker, education consultant, USA. The course includes short videos, activities, and discussion prompts. In this course you will learn:
- The importance of having students practice skills you are going to assess,
- The value of short practice sessions with constructive feedback,
- Your role as an educator to ensure that students don’t overlearn and remain open to adapting their skills to different context.
