Fostering Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is primarily about assuring that the work that students do is their own so that student learning is authentic. In maintaining academic integrity, we also help maintain trust and confidence in the system of grades, degrees, and certifications offered in higher education.
It is almost inevitable that at some point students will make errors of judgment. Engaging in conversations about academic integrity are constant reminders for students to make the right choice in the moment. Part of our role as educators is to hold students accountable for their actions, and by raising academic integrity up front, we can help students understand why it is important and reduce the number of incidents that occur.
