Hello, my name is Chie Adachi, and I work as Director of Digital Learning at Deakin University, Australia. With my colleagues from the Learning and Teaching Center at the university, I work on a number of innovation projects that aim to enhance our teaching practices online. So my research interests lie at the intersection of critical digital pedagogy, social learning, and intercultural education. Thinking about how those ideas might influence and advance our teaching practices, especially in a world that is increasingly digital and disrupted.

So for the topic that I’m talking about today, self and peer assessment in and for a digital world, it’s something that I feel passionate about, as I think this assessment approach, and associated skills we can develop in our students, are so relevant and important to our students and teachers in a modern society. I’ve worked on this project for several years and published work in close collaboration with my colleagues from the research center CRADLE, Center for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning. So I am excited to share our findings and strategies underpinned by our research with you.

This course introduces the concepts of self and peer assessment in/for a digital world. It explores the benefits of self and peer assessment for students and the common challenges that you can face when implementing it in your practice. You will discover practical considerations and solutions to help you try self and peer assessment with your students to encourage them to become better critical thinkers ready for the workplace.

“Giving the power of assessor empowers and activates learners in their own learning.”
