Designing assessments is challenging at the best of times. Designing assessments that are accessible, inclusive, and equitable, enabling all learners to demonstrate their learning without barrier or impediment, is an endeavor many educators would prefer to avoid than meet head on. Subsequently, many assessments consist of the same old recycled processes and approaches. However, with a few simple considerations and tweaks, assessment can be transformed into a more learnable, student-centered process.

In this webinar, Kevin L. Merry presents a series of critical steps that, when enacted, can support educators to design more accessible, inclusive, and equitable assessments using the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The webinar addresses assessment from the holistic perspective, demonstrating how assessment as a process can support learning by becoming a more intentioned and integrated part of instruction, supporting learners to become highly autonomous and self-directed in their pursuit of learning goals.

Kevin L. Merry is the Founder and Chair of the Universal Design for Learning UK & Ireland Education Network. Kevin is a sector-leading voice on accessible, inclusive, and equitable education through his championing and implementation of Universal Design for Learning, authoring several books on UDL instructional design and assessment.
