Course

Foundations of Neurodiversity for Higher Education Instructors and Staff

This course gives educators a foundation in the history, key terms, and politics of neurodiversity - paired with first-person perspectives and real classroom case studies to ground the concepts in practice. Participants will leave with clear strategies for designing more neurodiversity-affirming learning environments and inclusive course experiences.

This course has been developed with Sarah Silverman, an educator and independent faculty developer, USA. We recommend working through the lessons in order. At the end of each lesson, you will find a “Mark Complete” button at the bottom of the page. Once you have worked through all the lessons and marked them as complete, you will receive a course completion badge.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Define key terms related to neurodiversity
  • Review current knowledge about neurodivergent students in higher education
  • Recognize adjustments that can be made in course design to embrace executive functioning, processing, sensory, and communication differences
