New OneHE Learning Path helps educators address technology access barriers to learning

The pandemic is bringing into sharp focus a host of inequalities which, as a sector, we have long recognised but still find difficult to address. High among these is the issue of technology access as a barrier to learning. Today, OneHE launches a new series of linked courses to address this burning issue head on.

Thomas J. Tobin, one of the leading experts in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), has worked with OneHE to create three courses that help instructors, learning designers and administrators understand and address the most common technology-based barriers to online learning.

The courses are:

  • Shifting from Systems to Interactions with UDL: How to use the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to focus less on the systems and tools themselves, and more on the interactions that you want your learners to have.
  • Tech Tools and How to Use Them Inclusively: How to create a draft plan for an inclusive technology-tool suite for your organization, drawing on the four categories of technology tolls shared by learners and instructors.
  • Taking Action for Inclusive Design: How to further your coal of an accessible-organization, and what to do when planning services, offerings, and interactions with an access-first mind-set.

This is the first of OneHE’s new Learning Paths, a way of turning content into customised pathways relevant to specific audiences and institutions.
