Course

Introduction to Teaching with Zines

In this course, you will learn how zines can be an effective way for students to become invested in their topics and passionate about doing research. Zines are one way in which students can really see and hear themselves in their research by combining scholarship with personal narratives.

This course has been developed with Dawn Stahura, the Research and Instruction Librarian for the Sciences and Healthcare Sciences and the Zine Librarian at Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts, USA, and it includes short videos, activities, and discussion prompts. When completed you will:

  • Have an understanding of the important role zines can play in bringing the student experience and thier expertise into the classroom.
  • Be introduced to some unique opportunities and challenges that zines bring to the classroom and ways in which to embrace them.
  • Learn some strategies for incorporating zines into your course design, from zines as final projects to icebreaker activities.
