Mid-Term Strategies for Student Engagement

James M. Lang
Event Details
Most of us have engagement strategies that we use on a regular basis, from Think-Pair-Share to small group discussions. This webinar will present ideas for expanding our engagement toolkit with strategies that create more space for in-class writing and even in-class reading. In addition to the general benefits of providing more guidance on the essential academic skills of writing and reading, these strategies will especially benefit learners who struggle with the pressure of speaking in class.
This webinar will be facilitated by James M. Lang. James is a Professor of Practice at Notre Dame’s Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence and has authored six books, including Distracted: Why Students Can't Focus and What You Can Do About It and Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning. A columnist for The Chronicle of Higher Education, he also edits a series of books on Teaching, Engaging, and Thriving in Higher Ed Series for the University of Oklahoma Press.
