Teaching by Discussion
Effective classroom discussion is rarely a product of chance. In this course, we look at techniques we can employ to increase the effectiveness of our classroom discussions and improve student outcomes.
This course has been developed with Professor Jay Howard, Professor of Sociology and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Butler University in Indianapolis, USA. This course includes several short videos and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. When completed you will:
- Understand the key research findings that underpin effective classroom discussion.
- Identify challenges associated with using discussion as a pedagogical tool.
- Make use of three strategies for overcoming those challenges.
