Asynchronous Online Teaching and Course Design in the AI Era

Karen Costa

Niya Bond
Event Details
With over thirty years of online teaching and design experience between them, seasoned educators Niya Bond and Karen Costa are stumped, and they are surely not alone. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is seriously challenging much of higher education, but those of us teaching asynchronous, online courses are facing particularly wicked problems. Niya and Karen invite their asynch, online friends and colleagues to join them in this open forum.
They will begin with a brief outline of the problems being reported by faculty, share some practical strategies, and ask a LOT of questions about how we can design our way forward. Most importantly, they will provide a space for this community of educators who are deeply passionate about college access and success to come together for support and brainstorming. Where do we go from here? How can we protect the hard-won, immense access that asynch, online learning has offered millions of students while ensuring student and faculty success?
This open forum will take place in Zoom with an open and active chat. No breakout rooms will be offered. Cameras can be on or off. You can actively engage or listen, whatever works for you. Come as you are as we gather in community to laugh, lament, and hopefully, come up with some ideas for our courses.
