Hi, I’m Dr. Michelle Cavaleri, and I’m the Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching at Education Centre of Australia. I’ve worked as a lecturer in higher education, and also as an academic skills advisor and in both types of roles, I saw firsthand the impact of feedback on students, both positive and negative and why it’s therefore important that as educators we work to develop our feedback practices. This led me to my PhD research where I explored the impact of written feedback versus screen capture video feedback. My research and my experience using video feedback and training other educators has shown me that it’s an effective method for providing feedback to students that is pedagogically sound. In this course we’ll look at the importance of feedback mode and methods, the research into and potential of screen capture video feedback and practical strategies for how you can use screen capture video feedback to better engage your students.
Providing high-quality feedback that students engage with is a critical issue for most educators. In this course, we look at how video feedback provides opportunities to improve the feedback process for both students and educators, the value it brings to online education where there are typically fewer opportunities for informal dialogue, and how educators can all get started with the approach.
