Turning Difficult Discussions into Authentic Learning Opportunities
In this course, we will learn about evidence-based strategies for facilitating potentially challenging discussions in higher education contexts, creating inclusive dialogue spaces, and transforming difficult moments into meaningful learning opportunities.
This course has been developed with OneHE Faculty Developer, Niya Bond, and it includes short videos, activities, and discussion prompts. When completed you will be able to:
- Design and implement discussion guidelines – and when appropriate, engage in pedagogical partnerships with students to do so – that promote respectful dialogue around sensitive topics.
- Apply structured facilitation techniques that encourage diverse perspectives while maintaining academic focus.
- Respond effectively to unexpected challenging moments in ways that support learning and maintain classroom community.
